THE LABTOP PROJECT

First, make eight various 'laptops' using wood and metal hinges. Model 'laptop' dimensions after actual laptops. Spray paint the wood silver and black. Add trompe l'oeil details such as USB ports.

Action one: (image on this page) ask eight people to throw 'laptops' off a bridge, unannounced, over the span of half an hour, within view of an unsuspecting audience. Some in the audience will think that real laptops are being tossed into the river.

Action two: carry and install 'laptops' into public and private spaces where they appear to be real. For example, install one in a public hallway in the writing center of a university. Place another in a coffeeshop, and walk around Montreal all day with another tucked under one's arm.

Action three: find volunteers to bravely carry 'laptops' through international and domestic security at the airport.

Action four: leave outdoors in the South Bronx for two months to see if any disappear.
